About Caterelo
Personal relocation decision engine for Southern Europe.
Caterelo is a personal relocation decision engine for Southern Europe. It helps remote workers, families, expats and second-home buyers compare 90 regions across Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, France and Croatia using data, personal matching and local validation. The goal is decision support — not legal, tax, immigration, financial or property advice.
01Why Caterelo exists
Hundreds of thousands of Europeans, Americans and post-Brexit Brits are moving to Southern Europe every year. Yet the data they use to make a decision worth 5-10 years of their life is fragmented across dozens of sources — Numbeo for cost of living, Idealista for property, Eurostat for demographics, Facebook groups for community, blogs for lifestyle, forums for reality checks.
The result is decision overwhelm, paralysis, and ultimately decisions made on Instagram aesthetics rather than facts. Caterelo exists to make relocation decisions data-driven, personal and locally validated — without pretending to be a generic AI assistant or a property marketplace.
02What problem it solves
Three structural problems with relocation research today:
- Data fragmentation — the 60+ sources that matter (Eurostat, INE, ISTAT, INSEE, ELSTAT, INE PT, DZS, OECD, WHO, IPCC AR6, national meteorology, property portals, community indices) are scattered across different platforms, languages and formats.
- Decision overwhelm — raw data does not help most people decide. They need scored comparisons, personal matching against their actual life, and a clear shortlist.
- Missing local validation — no spreadsheet captures noise levels, neighbourhood vibes, building quality or seasonal variation. That requires people on the ground.
Caterelo compresses the first two problems into 13 signals across 7 decision dimensions, with a personal Match Score, then connects you to local validators for the third.
03How we handle uncertainty
Relocation data is uneven. Some sources (Eurostat, INE, IPCC AR6) are official, peer-reviewed and high-confidence. Others (Numbeo, property portals) are public, market-based or crowdsourced — useful but not authoritative.
Caterelo handles this transparently:
- 3-tier source structure on the /sources/ page: Tier 1 (Official / Public), Tier 2 (Market / Property), Tier 3 (Community / Crowdsourced).
- Confidence labels on region pages, computed at build-time from real data presence (High ≥ 90% coverage, Medium 70-89%, Low < 70%).
- Decision-support framing, not guarantees. Scores are directional indicators of fit, not definitive rankings of "best".
- Honest gaps: where regional NUTS 2 data is unavailable, we mark figures explicitly as country-level proxies.
04What we do not claim
Caterelo is informational guidance, not legal, tax, immigration, financial or property advice. It does not replace licensed professionals. Always verify country-specific regulations and consult licensed lawyers, tax advisors, immigration specialists or real-estate professionals before making relocation, property or financial decisions.
- Not a property listing marketplace (use Idealista, Immobiliare, Spitogatos, SeLoger, Njuškalo, Imovirtual for actual listings).
- Not a generic AI relocation chatbot.
- Not a guarantee of relocation outcomes — relocation depends on many factors outside any data platform's control.
- Not legal, tax, immigration, financial or property advice.
05How data is reviewed
Caterelo follows a structured review cadence:
- Quarterly refresh — full dataset review aligned with national statistics agencies' release cycles (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4).
- Manual cross-checks against multiple sources to catch outliers and inconsistent reporting.
- Annual climate update as new IPCC AR6 and EURO-CORDEX runs are published.
- Live feeds for weather, air quality and search interest update on each request.
- Open feedback loop — if a number looks wrong, email hello@r352.com with the source you would like us to incorporate. Typical response ≤ 48h.
